The Saudi Society of Dermatology and Venereology (SSDV) was established in the year 1409H corresponding to year 1989 in the Gregorian calendar. The society was conceptualized to gather all dermatologist and venereologist in the Kingdom. Its significance is to be able to share and discuss the clinical practice, education and research relevant in dermatologic medicine, surgery and related discipline. The foundation is attributed to honorable Dr. Sami Al Sogair who stands as their president since it was founded until the year 1994. From then on, SSDV made all possible means towards achieving a higher paced in the field of dermatology.

In the year 1994, an election of SSDV president was held; Dr. Omar bin Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh who had secured his fellowship degree in skin diseases in Germany was elected as the president. He stays at his post from 1994 up to present. Several researches in dermatological and allergic diseases done by him were published in many renowned local, national and international medical journals. With his zealous effort of bringing the society to a pinnacle of recognition, conferences, meetings and symposia will continuously exists annually both national and international.

The first international symposium was held in Riyadh in the year 1989; it was entitled, "The First International Symposium of Dermatology and Venereology." And the first national symposium was held in Abha in the year 1996. Needless to say, both symposia had gained a tremendous success. With this, the SSDV considered this kind of scientific program as one of their major accomplishment.

In the year 2002, the Saudi Society of Dermatology and Venereology, the name of the society was changed to Saudi Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, during the 7th National Symposium on 31st of October, 2002-1st November, 2002 at the King Fahad Hospital in Jezan.

Another breakthrough to the society is that, it has its own journal publication. Members are encouraged to conduct research and studies inclined with their field of specialization. Latest developments, diagnosis and treatment of dermatological cases and diseases were also published.
